Cuillin Nightfall

This linocut print was inspired by an Easter trip to the West coast of Scotland, sketching on the beach, listening to the lap of the waves, as the light quietly faded behind the Cuillins on the Isle of Skye. The print captures the glitter of the setting sun on the sea, the darkening rocks and the misty horizon where it becomes hard to distinguish the different layers of the distant mountains. It was printed with at least fifteen layers of translucent ink to build up the subtle shifts of colour.
